What is Divorce Mediation?

Divorce Mediation is a legal process that allows you to get divorced without going to court. You and your spouse meet with me, and I help you reach agreements on how to share your children, divide your property, and set up support payments if needed.

Why is Divorce Mediation Better than Getting Divorced in Court?

Divorce Mediation benefits include saving the parties’ money, time, and stress when compared to a litigated (court) divorce.

m1, divorce mediationMediation saves money. Mediation encourages collaboration to reach solutions that are mutually agreeable to both parties, unlike litigation which involves fighting for one position over another. In a litigated divorce, attorneys’ fees often exceed $50,000.00. In a mediated divorce, my fees typically range between $3,500.00 and $8,000.00, depending on how many meetings we need to resolve your case. I offer flat fee packages or hourly billing to fit your needs.

m2, divorce mediationMediation saves time. Mediation moves as fast or slow as you need it to. Under my divorce mediation program, you can reach a complete settlement in as little as 90 days. Litigation, in contrast, usually takes between 1 and a half to 2 years.

In court, you are a number amongst many; in mediation, the time we spend together is all yours. The result is that your divorce can be completed in 3 to 6 months rather than 1.5 to 2 years. Yes, I wrote years. Divorce court is crowded and it can take months to even be seen by a judge for simple matters. More complicated issues can take multiple appearances in front of a judge with each appearance spread out over 2 or 3 months.

m3, divorce mediationMediation saves stress. Going to court is a stressful experience. Between the rules, the unfamiliar procedures, and the public exposure of your most intimate life details, most litigants regret the decision to get divorced in court long before the process is done. When you mediate with me, you will get my dedicated attention, the privacy of my office, and my compassion. I not only understand your pain, but I work to help you find relief. Many clients find divorce mediation to be rather therapeutic.
